REPORT

CONSTITUTION DAY

Indian Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It gives elaborated framework defining fundamental principles, powers and duties of the governmental institutions and citizens. It establishes constitutional supremacy and was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950. To commemorate this event, 26 November is celebrated as the Constitution Day. The IIS University celebrated the Constitution Day and a series of events was held in this respect.

PLEDGE TAKING CEREMONY

The IIS University organized a pledge taking ceremony to celebrate the Constitution Day. The pledge was administered by Prof. Raakhi Gupta, Rector and Registrar, The IIS University and Prof. N.K. Jain, Dean, Arts and Social Sciences, The IIS University. The pledge was as follows “I, as a citizen of India, affirm my faith in the universal principle of civilized society, namely that every dispute between citizens, should be settled by peaceful means; and, in view of the growing danger to the unity and integrity of the country, I hereby pledge myself never to resort to physical violence in the case of any dispute, whether in my neighbourhood or in any other part of India”. All the students of Political Science and Public Administration undertook the pledge.

PICTURE AND POSTER EXHIBITION

The IIS University organized  a picture and poster exhibition to commemorate the Constitution Day which was viewed by Prof. Raakhi Gupta, Rector and Registrar, The IIS University and Prof. N.K. Jain, Dean, Arts and Social Sciences, The IIS University, faculty members and students. The Exhibition showcased various aspects of the Indian Constitution. The students exhibited the history of Constitutional Development through various pictures, charts and posters related to Fundamental Rights, Duties, Directive principles, working of Constituent Assembly, evolution of the Indian flag. They also highlighted the role of women in the Constituent Assembly.

 

STUDENTS’ SEMINAR

A seminar was conducted by the students of The IIS University to celebrate the Constitution Day. This session was conducted also to enhance participatory skills among students. The students gave their presentations on various topics focussing on the distinctive features of the Indian constitution. Students spoke on topics related to constitution like the Preamble, Amendments, Articles, writs, various bills, policies, important cases which led to amendment in constitution etc. In the wake of the current upheavals in the country, it was felt that there is a need to bring about the fusion of the ideology of the constitution and new ideas that reflect the changing need of time. In this seminar, various conflicting rights and ideologies were briefed, fundamental rights and duties of constitution were challenged, various provisions were analysed and suggestions were given. The Indian ideology of freedom, decentralisation, and equality is clearly reflected in the constitution. The seminar ended after a long session impacting on audience, the importance, flaws and suggestions in the Indian Constitution.
